BDK Parfums Gris Charnel is one of the best overall fig fragrances.

Gris Charnel is sweet, smooth, and creamy, with the perfect amount of spice and subtle wood notes.

Gris Charnel is a well-balanced, high-quality niche fragrance.

BDK Parfums Gris Charnel is one of BDK Parfums’ most popular fragrances and is widely regarded as one of the best fig fragrances available.

Gris Charnel is an incredibly well-balanced fragrance. It is smooth and creamy, with a sweetness from the fig note, and a subtle woodiness from the sandalwood.

The cardamom and black tea bring in just the right amount of spice, creating a cozy and comforting scent.

Some find Gris Charnel to be masculine-leaning, but to me, this is a perfectly unisex fragrance. It isn’t overly sweet, spicy, or woody. All of the notes blend perfectly to create a fragrance that is neither overly feminine nor masculine.

When I wear Gris Charnel, I get over 8 hours of longevity. You can apply this in the morning and still smell it late into the evening.

Gris Charnel is also highly versatile. With its well-balanced scent, it is appropriate for any occasion and is office-appropriate.

As for seasons, Gris Charnel was inspired by gray days. While it can be worn year-round, I reach for it in the fall, winter, and cool rainy spring days.

Indigo is a blend of sweet fig and citrus, warm spices, and earthy green tea.

Indigo has been described as smelling like a luxury hotel.

Indigo is sweet yet refreshing at the same time.

Coming in as a very close runner-up to Gris Charnel for best fig fragrance is Nest Indigo. Indigo is another incredibly well-balanced fragrance, though it is on the sweeter side compared to Gris Charnel.

I have seen comments that Indigo smells like a luxury hotel, and this description is so accurate!

Indigo is a blend of sweet fig and citrus, warm spices, and earthy green tea. It is a sweet, comforting fragrance, similar to Gris Charnel, yet simultaneously refreshing and green.

This cozy, spicy, and sweet fig tea fragrance works well year-round, but I love reaching for it on cool gray rainy days.

Indigo is another very unisex fragrance, though some find it leans a bit more on the feminine side with its sweetness.

Indigo is a highly versatile fragrance, appropriate for all occasions. While it doesn’t last quite as long as Gris Charnel, I get a full day’s wear, though it does quiet down as the day progresses.

Fig & Lotus Flower is very versatile and easy-to-wear.

Jo Malone Fig & Lotus Flower is a fresh and clean, sweet, floral fig fragrance. This is a refreshing and slightly aquatic fragrance, perfect for fitting the “clean girl” (or “clean boy”) aesthetic.

Another well-blended fragrance, Fig & Lotus Flower blends a sweet and creamy fig note with fresh and clean citrus in the opening, leading into the aquatic floral lotus flower.

This is a very versatile and easy-to-wear fragrance, perfect for the spring and summer and any occasion.

Fig & Lotus Flower remains refreshing, clean, and sweetly crisp throughout the dry down.

Although Jo Malone fragrances have a reputation for not being long-lasting, in my experience, Fig & Lotus Flower lasts a full day. It has average projection for the first few hours and quiets down into a lighter scent for the second half of the day.

I personally don’t need or want all of my fragrances to be nuclear performers. I can appreciate great fragrances with average longevity, and I don’t mind reapplying throughout the day if needed.

If you enjoy beachy coconut fragrances, No.13 Nouvelle Vague is worth a try!

I have found that No.13 Nouvelle Vague is surprisingly long-lasting for a light beachy type of fragrance. Like most of the other fragrances listed here, it lasts a full day, becoming lighter as the day progresses.

Fig Extasy is a dry, spicy, and woody type of fig fragrance.

Fig Extasy combines the dry fig note with pepper, incense, leather, and woody notes. As it dries down, the leather and wood notes remain prominent.

Mancera Fig Extasy is a dry, spicy, and woody type of fig fragrance. This one leans masculine, with its incense and leather notes.

The fig note in Fig Extasy isn’t the juicy and sweet variety seen in the previously mentioned fragrances. Here, it is dry and woody, with the fig leaf being more prominent than the juicy nectar.

The opening of Fig Extasy combines the dry fig note with pepper, incense, leather, and woody notes. As it dries down, the leather and wood notes remain prominent.

For a Mancera fragrance, I was surprised by how discrete this fragrance is. It is actually quite versatile, as it isn’t an overpowering loud fragrance. This is a more subtle spicy woody fragrance that can be worn year-round and for any occasion.

The longevity is average, but definitely less than most other Mancera fragrances. I get around 4 to 5 hours of wear with moderate projection.

  • Top Notes: Fig Nectar, Incense, Ginger, Black Pepper
  • Middle Notes: Fig Leaf, Leather, Sandalwood, Cedar, Lavender, Thyme
  • Base Notes: Vanilla Pod, Siam Benzoin, Styrax, Tonka Bean

✓ Pros

  • Interesting blend of dry fig, spicy, and woody notes
  • Versatile

✗ Cons

  • Not as long-lasting as most Mancera fragrances
  • Some don’t enjoy the leather note

How to Choose the Best Fig Fragrance

When choosing a new fig fragrance, consider your budget, when and where you plan on wearing the fragrance, and what kind of longevity you are looking for.

Price

The fig fragrances listed here are all niche fragrance brands and are mostly priced similarly to the average designer fragrance. The exception is BDK Gris Charnel, which is priced higher.

Where available, travel-sized bottles are a great option to spend less while being able to thoroughly try out a fragrance before committing to a full bottle.

Season and Occasion

Many of the fig fragrances listed here are very versatile and work well for any season and any occasion. If you are looking for a summery type of fragrance, Maison Louis Marie No.13 Nouvelle Vague and Jo Malone Fig & Lotus Flower are great choices. For cooler weather, BDK Gris Charnel and Nest Indigo are perfect.

Always experiment and wear whatever feels good to you, regardless of season or occasion!

Longevity

Most of the fig fragrances listed here are of average longevity. The one exception is BDK Gris Charnel, which has above-average longevity and easily lasts all day, with stronger and longer projection than most of the others.

Personally, I tend not to base my fragrance choices on longevity. I base my selection on the scent itself, and if needed, I reapply throughout the day, or layer with a longer-lasting fragrance.
